Planning your kitchen 1/3: analyzing the room

Starting a kitchen renovation project, whether large or small, can be very intimidating, especially when it's your first time. With coquo, installing your new kitchen is simplified, and we also want to simplify the planning process for you. In this series of three articles, we'll show you how to plan your kitchen renovation in four easy steps.

Step 1: Analyzing the part

The first step in the process is simply to identify your type of space in order to choose the ideal layout, using five main configurations: the U-shaped kitchen, the L-shaped kitchen, the laboratory kitchen, the I-shaped kitchen, and the kitchen with a central island.

THE U-SHAPED KITCHEN

This first layout is ideal forlarge rectangular rooms. The advantage of a U-shaped kitchen is its high functionality and the freedom it offers in terms of layout. This provides maximum storage capacity and optimal work surface area. What's more, everything is within easy reach.

THE KITCHEN IN L

This second layout is perfect for moresquare or rectangular rooms. An L-shaped kitchen offers flexibility in terms of layout, and depending on the proportions, there is always the possibility of adding a mini island for more counter space. It offers less storage space and work surface than a U-shaped kitchen, but without too much of a loss.

THE LABORATORY KITCHEN

This third configuration is ideal fornarrow rectangular rooms. In addition to eliminating the need for corner storage, it doubles the work surface area. As with the L-shaped kitchen, storage capacity is reduced, but still optimal for the available space.

THE KITCHEN IN I

An I-shaped kitchen is perfect forsmall spaces. It is the most practical and functional layout for small areas. Of course, with only one usable wall, storage space and work surface area are limited.

KITCHEN WITH CENTRAL ISLAND

This fifth and final layout is perfect forrooms that openonto a living room or dining room. A kitchen with a central island is ideal for families, as it allows several tasks to be carried out simultaneously thanks to its optimal work surface. This layout offers the possibility of clearly separating the different areas for greater efficiency. Like the U-shaped layout, a kitchen with a central island also offers many possibilities for optimal storage.

The first step is that simple! Once you have assessed your space and chosen the layout that best suits your home, you are ready for step 2: the layout plan. Stay tuned for our next article, which will outline the steps to follow to create the best layout plan and determine the most ergonomic work triangle possible.
