Planning your kitchen 1/3: room analysis

Starting a kitchen renovation project, large or small, can be very intimidating, especially when it's your first experience. With coquo, installing your new kitchen is simplified, and we want to simplify the planning process for you too. In this series of 3 articles, we'll show you how to plan your kitchen renovation in 4 easy steps.

Step 1: Part analysis

The first step in the process is simply to identify your type of space in order to choose the ideal configuration, using 5 main configurations: the U-shaped kitchen, the L-shaped kitchen, the laboratory kitchen, the I-shaped kitchen and the kitchen with central island.

THE U-SHAPED KITCHEN

This first configuration is ideal for large rectangular rooms. The advantage of the U-shaped kitchen is its functionality and freedom of layout. The result is maximum storage capacity and an optimal work surface. What's more, everything is within easy reach.

COOKING IN L

This second configuration is perfect for more square or rectangular rooms. The L-shaped kitchen offers flexibility in layout, and depending on proportions, there's always the possibility of adding a mini island for more counter space. It offers more storage capacity and a smaller work surface than a U-shaped kitchen, without losing too much.

THE LABORATORY KITCHEN

This third configuration lends itself perfectly to narrow rectangular rooms. In addition to eliminating the need for corner storage, the work surface is doubled. As with the L-shaped kitchen, storage capacity is reduced, but still optimal for the space available.

THE I-SHAPED KITCHEN

The I-shaped kitchen is perfect for small spaces. In fact, it's the most practical and functional configuration for small spaces. Of course, with only one wall to work with, storage capacity and work surface are limited.

KITCHEN WITH CENTRAL ISLAND

This fifth and final configuration is perfect for rooms that open onto a living or dining room. A kitchen with a central island is ideal for families, since its optimal work surface means that several tasks can be carried out simultaneously. This configuration offers the possibility of separating different zones for greater efficiency. Like the U-shaped configuration, the kitchen with central island also offers many possibilities for optimal storage.

The first step is just as simple! Once you've assessed your space and chosen the configuration that best suits your home, you're ready for step 2: the layout plan. Stay tuned for our next article, which will outline the steps you need to follow to complete the layout and determine the most ergonomic activity triangle possible.
